Champions clubmatch 2009
On Saturday 26 September it finally happened. The long anticipated Champions club match combined with our 5th anniversary. The exchange of experiences is one goal we, as a club, find is most important. It took quite some doing to decorate this day with a visit of the Thai judge Somsak Kunthana and to convince our members and other Thai owners that such days are fun for both competitors and visitors. At 8 am the first board members were already present at the Dog centre in Kerkwijk. What a terrific location! During the general member meeting earlier this year there was an appeal for volunteers to help set up and guide this day. Well, these volunteers set the alarm clock early that Saturday and defied the thick fog to be present at 8am. After warming up with some coffee it was time to decorate the big hall with some nice streamers and little flags, which were partially sponsored and partially bought in Thailand. A prize table was set up for the sponsored dog biscuits and prize bags. We really needed every minute to prepare for the event and many hands make light work.
At 10.30 am the first competitors and visitors arrived allowing us to start the show according to schedule. At first there was some confusion about show sequences, but this was easily fixed. There were over 35 Thai dogs present, of which 29 participated in the show. We had dogs coming from the Netherlands, Belgium, Swiss and Germany. After all, it was quite an international show…
For lunch there was a great BBQ and the wonderful weather made sure it was a very enjoyable time. Together at the grill, all talking and chattering. Animal shelter Den Bosch took the opportunity to come and gain more information on the Thai breed and to draw attention to a male Thai “Narong”, which has been in their care for over a year now. They were able to talk to several people about the Thai breed and “Narong”. We hope that their presence will bring good things to both “Narong” and their Thai breed knowledge.
At 2 PM the show continued and added more excitement and fun. During the day more (acquainted) visitors arrived with their Thai simply to take a look or for more personal reasons. As a result there were at least 70 to 80 people present at the show and the number of Thai dogs present had also increased. It was a successful day. Around 3 PM it was time to hand out the awards. There were prize-cups for the first 3 positions, a bag with dog biscuits, a medal and finally a beautiful cookie in the shape of a Thai ridgeback head, especially baked for this day and the owners.
At the end of the day we cleaned up together, talked about the day while enjoying the Autumn sun and had a drink at the Dog centre’s terrace. We heard that everybody enjoyed this day and was able to exchange their very important experiences!!
We would like to thank everybody and we hope to see you at the next Thai meeting!!!
On behalf of the TRCN board.
