Be very well informed about the breed and its character.
Take your time before selecting a suitable puppy for you and your family. Understand that puppies are like little children who may recuire 24/7 attention and love as well as a good role model and teacher.
Please be informed by Thai Ridgeback owners, who you can meet at the club days or on dogshows. This will allow you to see the diverse variety of characters in dogs and compare opinions and experiences of owners.
Buy your puppy at a breeder that is certified by the Thai Ridgeback Breed association.
When possible, visit a breeder before you decide buying a puppy.
Talk to a breeder about his/her dogs, experiences and have a good look at the litteras well as older dogs of previous litters and their surroundings.
Ask the breeder about vaccinations, deworming and nutrition of the puppies. Ask for a health statement issued by a veterinarian.
Ask the breeder if you may contact him/her whenever you have questions or problems with your new puppy.
Only buy the puppy if you have a good feeling about the breeder and your future puppy.
Make sure you have arranged day care for the puppy when the need arises.
Spend as much time as possible with your puppy to help it develop social skills and become familiar with environmental factors, especially important during its first year.
Take obedience classes at a kennel club, which is familiar with the Thai Ridgeback breed and lets you follow the classes at your own pace.
Do not forget to become a member of the Thai Ridgeback Breed association TRCN.
